Dr. Choi can help you have a strong, beautiful new smile.

Dr. Choi is an expert in helping mature adults with their dental needs. Mature adults have specific needs and issues that Dr. Choi has years of experience in treating and specialized training in. To further his expertise he is currently enrolled in a 3 year Geriatric Dentistry Masters program at USC Dental School. Dr. Choi's studies include the effects of medication, nutrition and systemic conditions on mature dental patients.

As a person ages, their teeth and gums can decay causing problems such as loosened teeth, receding gums, shifting of teeth causing gaps, worn teeth making the teeth look short and unsightly, or the teeth become so decayed that they have to be extracted. As teeth age they can also yellow or become discolored.

Affordable Dental Care

Dr. Choi and our staff do their utmost to get patients the treatment they need. We accept many insurances and offer financing, including our own affordable in-house dental plan for patients without insurance.

Options for a strong, attractive smile

Dr. Choi provides several options to treat damaged, decayed or unattractive teeth. After a complimentary initial exam, evaluation and consultation, he will provide treatment alternatives that can include any of the following:

Gum disease treatment

Sometimes a good deep cleaning is all that is needed to return gums and teeth to health, or it is part of your comprehensive program of care.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Dr. Choi uses the latest in tooth-colored bonding material to fill cavities.

Crowns

Chipped or cracked teeth, or teeth with large cavities can be preserved with our high-quality porcelain, durable and natural-looking crowns. Dr. Choi ensures the fit is precise and matches your other teeth.

Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth or your teeth are too decayed or damaged to be saved, Dr. Choi can replace them with dental implants. It is not always the best solution to try to save a tooth when it is severely compromised. Its repair can include several procedures and a lot of expense, but you will be left in any case with a weakened tooth that will likely fail in the near future. Dr.Choi can evaluate your teeth and assess whether it is best to save them or replace them.

Implant-Supported New Teeth

Multiple missing teeth or a full-arch of missing teeth or teeth that need to be replaced don’t have to be replaced with single implants. Dr. Choi can replace them with a set of teeth supported by implants. Dr. Choi provides several levels of implant-supported teeth replacement:

  • Denture stabilization to stabilize with implants an existing denture
  • Removable Implant-Supported dentures with three to four implants per arch
  • Fixed-in implant-supported dentures that emulate natural teeth and provide up to 90 percent of normal chewing power.
  • New Teeth in One Day for full-arch teeth replacement in a single visit. Dr. Choi does any needed extractions, places the implants and fixes in attractive, lifelike new teeth. You walk out with teeth similar to your natural teeth and with close-to-normal chewing power. Because this procedure uses specially angled, long implants, Dr. Choi can perform this procedure without bone grafting on patients who have lost bone through periodontitis or from leaving teeth missing.

Dentures

Dentures are an economical tooth replacement option and also an alternative for patients who are reluctant to have implant surgery. Dr. Choi uses state-of-the-art dentures called Geneva 2000® dentures that are well-fitting, comfortable and natural-looking. They are fabricated with high-quality, layered porcelain and each denture tooth is individually handcrafted to give it a natural shape. These dentures are strong and resistant to wear.

Dental Bridges

Dr. Choi creates high-quality bridges to replace missing teeth, and uses and excellent lab and top-quality materials for best results. As bridges can require grinding down of adjacent, healthy teeth, he may recommend dental implants to maintain the integrity of your other teeth.

Porcelain Veneers

In just two treatment visits, Dr. Choi can correct many conditions with porcelain veneers, such as chipped, discolored or worn teeth; gaps in teeth and even mildly crooked smiles.

ClearCorrect® Clear Teeth Straightening

It's never too late to have a straight smile! Many older adults can benefit from ClearCorrect’s clear aligner trays to straighten their crooked front teeth. Teeth straightening has the additional advantage of improved ability to keep your teeth clean.

One-Visit Root Canal Therapy

Many teeth can be saved with root canals. Dr. Choi can evaluate this in your initial exam and consultation. If you decide on a root canal, Dr. Choi will make sure the procedure is performed efficiently and comfortably.

Why do teeth fail?

There are two main reasons for tooth failure and loss. There are several risk factors associated with these, such as age, chronic disease, smoking, poor oral care and bad diet. Included in poor oral care is insufficient visits to the dentist. Home oral hygiene can only take care of the soft bacterial plaque on the teeth and not the hardened plaque—calculus or tartar—which is the principal cause of bone loss around a tooth.

Cavities

A principal reason for teeth failure is cavities. People think that cavities happen primarily to kids, but when a person ages their saliva glands don’t always work as well, making dryer mouths. Dry mouths are acidic and help bacteria multiply, causing decay. In addition, many older adults are on medications that cause dry mouths. Cavities in an adult usually happen on the exposed root at the gum line, and can dissolve the exposed roots, causing loosened teeth or tooth loss.

Gum Disease

Gum disease is caused by bacterial plaque—the soft bacteria that grows on the teeth. It can harden into calculus and cause loss of bone support. Poor diet, smoking and poor oral hygiene are the main factors behind gum disease, along with genetic predisposition. Gum disease risk increases with age and with the presence of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and osteoporosis. Gum disease is a progressive condition that attacks bone causing pockets between the gum and the tooth and eventual loosening of the tooth and tooth loss. However, advanced gum disease isn’t always obvious. In the beginning gum disease causes bleeding, but as it progresses, bleeding often stops because the inflammation caused by the bacteria is now inside the pocket and out of reach of a toothbrush or floss. If you haven't been to a dentist for a while, you should come for a checkup to test for gum disease. Caught early enough, gum disease can be stopped and bone loss prevented.

Tired of wearing dentures? Having trouble with loose or uncomfortable dentures?

With today’s options for replacing teeth, no one has to continue to suffer loose dentures, or even wearing dentures at all. Dental technology has advanced so far that even long-term denture wearers can replace them with fixed-in, lifelike new teeth at an affordable cost. No more removing teeth at night, denture slippage, denture discomfort or any of the other indignities suffered by denture wearers.

Dr. Choi has helped many hundreds of denture wearers transition to a stronger, more stable and attractive teeth. Our most economical option is denture stabilization using two or more implants in an arch that snap into your existing denture. This stops denture slippage and increases chewing power. Dr. Choi can also use dental implants to permanently fix-in dentures, minus the top palate, or he can perform the New Teeth in One Day procedure—a new set of permanent teeth placed onto four implants in just a single day.

The Dangers of Dentures

Dentures are not just annoying, they can also affect your health and your facial structure. As dentures don’t provide much chewing power—it can be as low as 10 percent of normal chewing power—people avoid certain foods, such as raw vegetables and fruit, that are healthy for them. And because this chewing power is so low, the underlying bone doesn’t receive sufficient stimulation and the bone atrophies. This causes the chin to move closer to the nose, deep wrinkles to form and the mouth to have a wrinkled, pursed look.

Dentures cause progressive bone loss, which changes the structure of the lower half of the face, causing a prematurely aged look.

Robert had lower dentures that were loose because his lower gums were shrinking and it was hard to keep his denture in place. Dr. Choi put dental implants in to stabilize Robert’s lower denture.

“Dr. Choi has always been there for me when I need help. I like his mannerisms, caring and how he treated me as a patient.

“My lower plate now fits great and I am able to chew apples, corn on the cob and steak. Dr. Choi is the greatest.”

— Robert
